Training in winter

To follow on from our last blog post about how to maintain our motivation to train we're going to look at some reasons why winter is a great time to knuckle down and get plenty of work done in the gym!

Traditionally the colder darker months of winter are thought of as a time to stay rugged up indoors with the heater on hibernating while we wait for things to warm up a bit!

In recent years though MONA's Dark MOFO has turned this perception on it's head and proved that winter can actually be a great time to get out and do things, which of course includes hitting the gym and working on our fitness.

Typically through winter we have less social engagements (other than the MOFO events!) our friends aren't getting married, the BBQ isn't getting fired up so our time availability is actually a bit more than in the warm part of the year.

Training also releases those feel good endorphins to help take away the winter gloom as well as keeping our metabolism firing so we can come out the other end as a lean, mean fighting machine!

To celebrate the start of winter this Saturday the 1st of June at 7:30am we are joining up the the Sole Mates running club for a run and dip in the river!

DETAILS:

Where: Meeting at the car park next to the playground on Bellerive beach.

When: Saturday, June 1st. Run kicks off at 7:30am, so get there a bit before that so no one is left behind!

How long: 20 minutes out and 20 minutes back - run, jog, waddle, walk, or roll. You can also shorten the run to suit you on the day. We will reconvene at the meeting point for our morning dip.

Who can come: everyone! Members, family, friends, and those who are keen! Doggos are encouraged and preferred.

See you there - rain, hail, or shine! Let's embrace the wintery season
